Tropical Swell Update

Tropical Storm Bertha continues to move away from Bermuda after battering the island Monday. Rain has ended over the island, and winds will continue to diminish through the day. Dangerous surf will continue to impact the coastal waters around Bermuda, with seas slowly subsiding as well as the day progresses.

As of 11 a.m. E.D.T., Bertha was located about 260 miles north-northeast of Bermuda with maximum sustained winds around 70 miles per hour, primarily in thunderstorms in the eastern half o [...]

Bertha Swell

The hurricane has passed and the waves we got over here in Barbados were never going to be huge but were certainly fun. From the Dread Or Dead surf shop team only Russell and Matthew were able to represent over at the soup bowl where all the action was to be had. Jay is still out to injury (get better soon) and Kane had commitments.
At best the swell produced 8ft. faces so we are told but was alwasy perfectly clean and fun.
Lets hope that there is more out there for u this season.
See you in [...]

Tropical Weather Update

Bertha, after briefly becoming a major hurricane, continues to weaken. It's moving toward the northwest at about 10 mph and at 5 a.m. EDT was centered about 800 miles southeast of Bermuda.

Some fluxuation in strength is possible over the next few days as is a further slowing of its forward motion and a turn to a more north-northwest track and finally more northeastward.

The factors in Bertha's weakening include upper-level wind shear, the ingestion of drier air and a path over somewhat coo [...]

Surf's Up On The East

The east has been full of summer time swell the past two days. Nothing huge but some very clean and fun waves. Maybe as much as 4ft on the set but very fun line and shape. Perhaps something to do with hurricane Bertha?
Perhaps, it will improve or perhaps not.
Who knows?
Otherwise see you over there this afternoon. [...]

Hurricane Bertha

The first of the season, hurricane Bertha strengthened to a Category 3 storm Monday as it swirled in the central Atlantic, but it posed no immediate threat to land. Forecasters expect the Atlantic season's first hurricane to head toward Bermuda. It was too early to tell whether the storm would hit the island, but residents were urged to monitor Bertha's progress.
Waves could be on the way! [...]

Swell Report Barbados

This morning 0500 at Brandons the waves are still around just not nearly as big as yesterday. There was a low tide this morning however the reange of the tide is small today and so was a higher tide than usual and it will probably stay that way most of the day. The wind was howling this morning and has since dropped. Look for the swell to improve slightly this afternoon and late in the evening. Brandons is the best break on the south coast. It takes something special to make other breaks perform [...]
