Surf lessons in Barbados (Brandon's)

This morning I had an early bird couple, Sebastian and Marie, which wanted to go surfing. The weather didn’t look promising but I was told that the couple was keen.

When we turned up at the break the waves were not looking any good either but the ocean looked glassy. Then out of nowhe [...]

Just before the weekend we were able to get a little surf on the south coast. So, all the surfers saved a little on gas money this weekend.

Barbados Surf Scene

Whats new?
Nothing to much going on at the moment. The last swell to pass through was exactly what was expected and nothing like what was needed. It was small choppy and just stayed that way. Like a fool I chased after it ever second I had, which was not as often as I would have liked. I was kept busy with surf lessons which is great. The beginners I have seen lately have really been kicking some tail!

Maybe I am just that damn good!

The groups have been really cool and we've accomplishe [...]

Soup Bowl Barbados

I went over to the East coast yesterday and got a morning dip with a mate of mine Stuart. I really just felt like the drive and was not expecting to much but as per usual was ever optimistic. Upon arrival at Soup Bowl Ashley Farmer was hanging out on the beach with his kite kit and seemed to be as much at a loose end as we were. After the drive we had to go in a get wet and see if there was anything ridable or at least chat for an hour and kill some time pretending to surf. In the water there we [...]

Surf School Barbados

Things are really looking good at the moment. The surf school is really busy and the shop too. A new delivery of surfboards arrived yesterday so they are all being unpacked right now. The beach shop is coming to life now and with a new coat of paint it looks as though it is supposed to be alive. Amaryllis hotel is where the beach shop is located, on the south coast, and from there is where most of our surf lessons are conducted over summer. The stand up paddle boards are at the beach shop too an [...]

South Point Barbados

Its been the place to be every morning. Its the only place that has waves. South Point has been throwing up knee to waist high surf and if you longboard its been the nicest little wave around. I am just about ready for the wind to drop so that I can enjoy some east coast action. I felt for it on Sunday only to hear that it was worth it and again I felt for it yesterday but other commitments kept me on the South coast. If it stays good today I am up for a drive east to check it out. [...]

Learn Surfing In Barbados

Today's surf lesson was an early start, meeting Merrick at the hotel for 9 o'clock. 9 o'clock here in the caribbena is early. Merrick has been surfing with us for a while now and is just about off on his own but likes to have someone around him just to encourage him to pick certain waves but he can do all of the wave catching on his own, and his wave riding and the moves he has on boards 9' and 10' long are great he is truning and surfing well. Merrick started surfing with me on Thursday last we [...]

Surfing Lessons Barbados

Yesterday's surf lesson was a special one. We had luck on our side and found Freight's bay with perfect, and I mean perfect, little waves. They were maybe 1' or so, perhaps 2' on the larger set waves, but it was only myself and one surf student, Ian.

It was Ian's day to shine. Iam had been out once before with us and that was his first visit to the see with a surfboard beneath his feet. I would have liked to have seen Ian move on and start catching more wvaes on his own. I am not sure exactly [...]

Barbados Surfing Today

There was an early morning pulse for the south coast today but it moved out as fast as it appeared. Small clean and nice line. I do confess to starting the day with a skimboard session. It was small but it helps to keep you fit. Damn swell like its gonna get smaller before it gets bigger and I just cant see the summer time ever arriving for the east coast. It's simple I just want summer time waves so I can show off with my longboard and catch ever wave out there. Perhaps some hurricane swell too [...]

Surf Action

The past week or week and a bit has been somewhat small but still kinda fun. I have been taking late afternoon sessions at Brandons and South Point and it has been fantastic. Thw little pulse that was around was up and down all the time and was usually better around the low tide that was filling back up.

Most days the surf has only been good enough for your committed longboarder or the kids. Speaking of which Dane McKay is looking pretty hot and ready for the Rip Curl Grom Search over in Flor [...]
