The search for arbados surfer of the year has begun. It kicked off at Brandons / Drill Hall this weekend 19th and 20th of January. The dividions held were kiddie winkles, U12, U16 and U18 for boys and girls.
On the Saturday with the kids Mr Axe Garret managed to find a 3rd and a 4th in his kiddi winkle and U12 divisions at six years old the team think that is an expletive...ing fantastic! Go brother!
Kane made a brief appearance on the Saturday and there were rumors of other Kane Garrett sitings throughout the weekend. A Kane siting at a surf contest is far more rare than bigfoot sitings consider yourself lucky if you saw him.
More news about Saturday, There are a few "Man Of The Year" awards to give out. I think Mrs Mckay knows what I am talking about... haha!
Also, one very angry parent lost their cool and flew up at the judges. Now, I can't be sure but I believe their was a breech in the code of conduct and that their is a penalty for that breech, or just like always rules for one and rules for another. Damn B.S.A. old faces new faces its always the same damn problems and accusations when is it going to stop! It's just a contest so leave ego's and opinions at home. The barbados Surfing Association need to find rules that they can apply to everyone no matter how friendly they are. Members of the Barbados Surfing Association need to obey those rules and not place themselves above the rules. Adults, it's just a kiddies surf contest. And if you need support ask, if you need spectators try welcoming some nicely and not in such a hostile fashion.
On to Sunday, I am affraid I let the Dread Or Dead team down by only managing a 2nd in the longboarding, however, the beach did like the headstand I pulled. Sorry team I just couldn't find the waves I need to score big. Well done to Alan Burke who found those waves and left the rest of us scampering.
In closing the contest, I thought, was an overall success, the parents managed to cheers the kids on (eventually) and Mr Bruce Mckay destroyed everyone in the open division. Barbados SOTY#1 complete and I think everyone is looking forward to the next one. Special thanks to my groupies..haha! Thank you so much for the support especially my Lady Alexis the sandwiches were fantastic!
