Surf Report Barbados

Well well, the surf is up and everyone seems to be getting some of it. Let me back tack a bit and tell you a little about what has been going on lately with not only the surf school bu the shop too. The shop has plenty of new gear to start with. Reef booties, shortboards, longboards, rash vest, clothing, traction and skateboard gear. The new shortboards are what really excite me. All those new hand crafted epoxy surfboards from the man himself STRETCH. Also, we have something that caught my eye a quad fin fish from Tolhurst. For summer and with my longboarding interest this seems to be the board I need. Dont let me get it first, it's new and waiting for an owner 6'0" really a summer time machine buy this board and kill off the shortboarders. The surf school has been busy busy busy! There are no signs of it slowing down. Thanks to all the folks that have learned to surf withus and those of you still thinking about learning to surf just drop us a line and we will take the very best care of you. Surfing is the way to go the coolest sport in the world and on an island like Barbados if your not surfing you are missing out on all the fun. Down to the waves lately. I have mentioned that it has all been about the skimboarding. The skim team is growing and those that are not already into it are getting left behind. Not only is it the only way to surf when the waves are small but a fantastic way to exercise. The team of skimmers that we have are smashing lips, hitting airs and getting barrelled and ll of this is taking place in the shore break. We would still all be out there skimming now if the waves on the south coast had not turned on. The past two days have been a welcome suprise. Jay Garrett, head surf instructor, is now leading the longboard division for the surfer of the year competition run by the BSA Barbados and has been absolutley killing it from South Point to Brandons. Freight's got devastated yesterday and this morning Brandon's took some more punishment from Jay's longboard. It's great to have him on the team not only for his surfing ability but for his teaching and surf instructor qualities as well. A recent phone call from a surfing student of Jay's was, Just a quick hello from the eastern seaboard to say thanks for all the help Jay gave and to let the Dread Or Dead surf shop and Surf In Barbados team know that they have purchased a surfboard at home and are ready to surf every day they can this summer. It's always nice to get praised especially over the phone. Back to the surf. Maybe Jay hurt the waves this morning because they seem to be a little weaker now. Either that or the swell is coming to an end. Get what you can of whats left while you can!
