Yesterday I was hearing all the hype about how Kelly Slater was going to be 9 times world champ and how this was such a special win closing the tour as champ with a good few events to go. What a legend kelly Slater is, a true hero.
Well it didn't happen like that. Ace Buchan gave what although close I would call a spanking. From the humble look on Kelly's face at the presentation taking a cheque for second, the first loser, I would say he felt like he had a been kicked in the nuts. Where did this Ace kid come from. It's just like that kick in the nuts from Bede. Kelly went into the water ready to collect number 9 and all the trimmings that go with. I think it would have been a great accomplishment however sad that again we crown queen Kelly. Kelly Slater may be one of if not the best surfer in the world ever but there must be problems at home when an athlete the calibre of Kelly Slater chokes on his own pride and level of self importance.
Hats off to Mr. Buchan for asterling performance. Not everybody gets the braggin' right of saying that they kicked Kelly's tail in a WCT final. Top bananas!
