Tropical Storm Omar has formed from Tropical Depression 15 in the eastern Caribbean Sea. Omar, with top winds near 40 mph, was located about 355 miles SSW of San Juan, Puerto Rico, at 11 a.m. EDT.
With Omar expected to strengthen and eventually accelerate toward the northeast, tropical storm watches remain posted for Puerto Rico, the U.S. and British Virgin Islands, and the eastern tip of the Dominican Republic.
Conditions are expected to deteriorate in those areas during the day tomorrow as Omar approaches. In the meantime, very heavy rain will threaten flooding and mudslides today in the Netherlands Antilles and extreme northern Venezuela.
In the western Caribbean, Tropical Depression 16 has developed about 45 miles NNE of the Nicaragua-Honduras border. The depression is expected to strengthen into a tropical storm (Paloma) as it moves northwestward then westward just north of the coast of Honduras.
A tropical storm warning has been issued from the Nicaragua-Honduras border westward to Limon, Honduras. Very heavy rains producing life-threatening floods and mudslides are likely in northeast Nicaragua and northern Honduras.
Regarding the swell, we have already had a whole heap of rain today and the waves have at times been big they have not been post card picture perfect. It's still been great to surf larger waves but I will just have to take that summer time small fin out of my longboard and jam back the longer fin.
lets look for this system to push waves towards us but from anoter direction.
