Hot diggity! I am almost glad that the swell has taken a break. There has been too many waves for too long. I shouldn't complain I guess it may go flat forever and we might never surf again.
I am sure you have all heard for Russell and his blog on www.dreadordead.com that the wave have been pumpin'. It's true he ain't a liar. The surf school has been so busy and inbetween I have been taking a surf of my own. You folks know that I busted my foot and so have been surfing in a rather conservative manner so yesterday while out with a small group of beginners I figured I would take out the 11'0" board and play around. Now, that door is a far better board than most folks would think it turns (sometimes slowly) you can walk up and down it and it paddles around so well. I had a great time.
So now what would a blog be without a bit of moaning c'mon its the english in me doing what it does best and moan. With all these good waves lately I have noticed that a few emerging pro's are around again. That guy who started surfing again after 30 years in the office and that kid who rode his first wave 2 weeks ago. Damn pro's!
Out there in the line up at Freight's Bay I met that guy from the office kinda wanting to get back in the grove. Now I am all support for that guy until he became a pro surfer, over night too? I am the most peaceful guy who would much rather walk away and surf another day but this guy was just too much. This guy tried to vent his poor performance on myself and my beginners. So my reply ws look bro we are here on the shoulder and out of your way maybe you should take to the peak and surf a real wave. Our pro now goes bananas.
"You can't tell me where to go"
So you can see the type of pro we are dealing with. He is cussin' and screaming Now infront of people I am not going to curse and nor did I expect him too either so I asked him to stop which made him worse and I do confess to offering my services to teach the guy a few surf lessons perhaps. This a little bit below the belt but none the less funny. I was then threatened with a beating to which my reply was only if you can catch me fatty!
I really wanted to keep going with this guy but figured better not because you never know his wife might have left him his coffe was cold in the morning and he was going bald, never an easy thing for a guy who is trying desperately hard to be young again.
Anyhow, where was I going with this, my point is why do prolonged good waves bring out all the freaks?
Freight's Bay is a lovely wave but it is a beginners wave and so if you are any kind of accomplished surfer why not go and surf a challenging break or if you are going to surf Freight's leave the contest surfing on the beach. I don't know why these pro's feel that they have to insult the kids and thise just starting out did they not have to make a start once upon a time?
And it is so simple if you dont want a drop in from a beginner call out loud so they can hear you or don't surf the spots they do.
Ok, moan over. I am so glad to get that off my chest and maybe I want our pro's to hear and take note
