Good greif , What a superb surf season we are having in barbados this year .First Katia, Then Maria, Now Tropical storm Ophelia. The first 2 sent waves to the East of the Island In the 12-15 ft range .which is some what standard but Ophelia sent us perfect sout coast for 2 days. Freights broke 4-5 ft opn Friday and Brandons the same, picture perfect conditions.Freights was Barreling a bit better than Brandons but freights had a huge crowd factor and many incedents. So i was Quite happy with Matthew and myself's decision to surf the home break on friday . today ,saturday I was cruising with Paul, We tried every where with no luck then Nick called and said check Freights ,so we did and Bingo Freights 4-5 ft perfect Barrels , By this time we had changed Equipment and swaped our performanse board's and big wave guns for Comp Longboards .perfect for freights when the crowds are out I was on my 9/1 meyhoffer comp and Paul on a Walden Magic 9/1 and quess who else has decided to surf again ,Mr Axe himself and he used his sisters 6/0 fish just to get some extra paddle power. Well waves at Freights tend's to bring everyone out .
Well here is the deal . I caught 6 set waves the first wave was a warm up just to see what the wave was doing . The next 3 were perfect clean barrels on my long board .The last 2 were sweet barrels the biggest set wave's , but i got a bit cockey and slowed the board down to get deeper in the barrel and longer inside time , forgetting how fast freights really is on those bigger days also how hollow it can get . So next time i'll know just keep on the gas is the way to make the barrel at Freights on a long board. Axe and Paul also had a blast but Paul was moaning a bit about how he hates Freights and he couldn't find the line ,suppose it happens sometimes. For me it was the best day of the year so far. Russell
